Alumni Profile - Gloria Vincent '11
Each May, the College celebrates our students with the annual Commencement ceremony. It is a proud moment for faculty members to see their efforts produce the next crowd of future professionals. Two years ago, one student in particular, Gloria Vincent ’11, overcame some struggles to eventually graduate with honors from the College. Last month, she graduated, once again with honors, from Temple University. Gloria still works with her fellow classmates to provide assistance to one student each year via their aptly named “Sweet Future” scholarship, which was established by selling candy to the College community. It is safe to say that Gloria has a very sweet future ahead of her as she seeks her first post college career opportunity.
What year did you graduate from Delaware County Community College and with what degree?
"After some struggles, I graduated in 2011 with an Associate of Arts in Communication Studies. I achieved Cum Laude recognition as a result of my hard work. It would not have been possible, without the help of some of my professors who took the time to help me stay on the path to success."
Did you pursue further academic goals?
"Yes, it was always my goal to transfer after graduation. In the summer of 2011, I was accepted at Temple University to continue studying toward my Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Studies."
What are you doing now?
"As of May 16, I am a proud to say I am officially a Temple graduate, Class of 2013. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Telecommunications. Once again, I graduated with honors, achieving Magna cum Laude recognition."
What are your future plans?
"I am looking to find a production assistant position in Philadelphia with a company called Shooters Inc. or possibly with the Philadelphia Film Office. Either job will allow me to gain the experience and knowledge necessary to move up in my career and help me to network with others in my profession."
What advice would you give to current students and Alumni to make the most of the education they received from the College?
"The road to earning an associate degree may be stressful and at times and you may feel like giving up. However, and I speak from experience, it only makes you a stronger person to go through those tough times and come out on top. Furthering your education beyond the College is such a great feeling and is a huge accomplishment. Let Delaware County Community College be the foundation in achieving your dreams. It’s NEVER too late to return! It will be well worth your work in the long run."
The Alumni Association is pleased to congratulate all our recent graduates and is especially proud of Gloria's accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.
