12 Students Graduate from GED Program
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • August 10, 2016)—Twelve students in the Bureau of Adult Basic Literacy Education Program (ABLE) recently graduated from Delaware County Community College’s General Educational Development (GED) program. Held annually, the College’s GED graduation ceremony gives students the opportunity to be recognized and commended for their hard work, determination and dedication.
Along with family and friends, students listened to keynote speaker Dr. Eric Wellington, Acting Provost, as well as graduates Meghan Flynn of Media and Amanda Gaytan of Coatesville. Flynn and Gaytan spoke of their struggles to achieve their GEDs and how they hope it will impact their futures.
Since 2014, when the new computer-based GED test was introduced, more than 40 students have obtained their GED certificate through free GED classes at the College. The program is funded by a federal grant issued by the PA Department of Education and ABLE, and makes it possible for residents to complete their education, thereby opening doors to more career opportunities.
The program is open to residents 18 years and older who have not completed the requirements for high school graduation or are basic skills deficient. Courses are taught in a classroom setting and cover Social Studies, Science, Math, Reading and Writing.
