Kids Summer Camp Offers Innovative Courses
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • March 24, 2017)—For the first time, Delaware County Community College is offering a specialty camp for kids, ages 10 to 13, that will teach them about carpentry and construction. “Let’s Get Building–KidCON” is an interactive workshop that will emphasize safety and the proper use of tools and other equipment used in construction. At the end of the camp, the kids will have made a small take-home project.
KidCON is one of many new and innovative summer courses for children ages 6 to 13. “The College will offer day camps geared to give all children the opportunity to grow and explore our world within a safe and welcoming environment,” said Tricia Scepansky, the College’s Director of Community Education.
Unlike previous camps at the College, where parents registered their kids for individual courses, this year campers will instead sign up for individual weeks. Each week will have a different theme, such as “Beach Blast,” and will include instruction in Art, such as drawing, painting, pottery, cooking and photography; Academic Skills Support, such as summer reading and mathematics instruction; Outdoor Activities, such as tennis, soccer and team-building exercises; and Games, Science and Technology activities, such as game coding classes, nature walks, robotics, physics instruction and fun with Legos.
Kids Camp starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 19–22, June 26–29, July 10– 13, July 17–20 and July 24–27. The camp is held four days each week because the College is closed on Fridays during the summer months.
In addition to Kids Camp, and for an added fee, parents can register their children for Specialty Camps like KidCon, the construction camp, as well as for specialty camps on Television/Film; Singing/Performing; Music/Audio; and Babysitting. “We are offering a variety of Specialty Camps geared toward engaging kids in specific areas of interest,” Scepansky said. Specialty Camps will be held at various times during the weeks of July 17–20; July 31–August 3; and August 7–10.
