Kids Summer Camps at Delaware County Community College Offer a Safe Way for Kids to Have Fun and Learn
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • June 1, 2022)—Kids Summer Camps at Delaware County Community College start June 27 and run through August 4. All camps will be in accordance with Pennsylvania and U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention safety guidelines and will be held Monday through Thursday because during the summer months the College is closed on Fridays.
“It is never too early to engage the minds of children through fun, thoughtful, well-organized, safe activities designed to stimulate learning and encourage career exploration,” says Delaware County Community College President Dr. L. This year, unemployed Delaware County residents can apply for up to $1,000 in credits toward a child’s summer camp fees so that caregivers can better focus on searching for employment or returning to work. Earlier this year, Delaware County Council approved the “Delco Strong Summer Camp Solution” program, which can help reduce barriers experienced by caregivers who are struggling to find work—a situation made more challenging by the summer closure of schools and the difficulty in finding adequate childcare. Residents of Delaware County with children under the age of 15 are encouraged to take advantage of this program.
Delaware County Community College has held Kids Summer Camps for more than 15 years and held youth programs since 1996. This year, the College offers Kids Summer Camps in Acting for the Camera, Arts & Crafts, Beginner Piano, Coding, cooking classes called “Calling All Chefs!,” Dance with Broadway and Disney classics, Drums including an intro to music theory, Photography with Smartphone or Digital photography, and Introduction to Film & TV. In addition, the College offers Babysitter Training with American Heart Association certification in child and infant CPR, first aid and water safety. New babysitters also will learn about safe toys, how to care and feed infants and toddlers, diapering techniques, and how to prevent accidents and handle emergencies.
For the Coding Summer Camps, kids (ages 8-14) explore the exciting world of coding, led by top teachers and industry talent. Children enjoy a personal education experience using the latest software from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Microsoft, Apple and more. The camps are run in coordination with Black Rocket, a national leader in tech-education with more than 200 locations worldwide that feature cutting-edge courses in coding, game design, app development, virtual reality and much more. Children staying all day are required to register for “Lunch Bunch,” which costs an additional $30 per week. Caregivers should be sure to let the College staff know when registering if they are interested in Lunch Bunch.
