Jump-Start Your Career Workshop Begins September 23
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • August 23, 2019)—Delaware County Community College is offering a 10-week career workshop for individuals looking to refresh their careers. Jump-Start Your Career will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, September 23 through November 25 at the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).
Jump-Start Your Career provides structure and support for people attempting to cope with the uncertainty of a changing job market. It is designed for people considering a career change, such as those who are unemployed, under-employed, or unhappy with their current employment. Participants learn how to manage their careers, and they take the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory to assess career satisfiers and occupational interests.
Workshop participants use various assessment methods to identify motivated skills, burn-out skills and personal priorities. In addition, participants identify their strongest marketable skills and develop an individualized plan to move ahead proactively. One-to-one consultation appointments with one of the College’s workshop leaders will be scheduled. Subsequent sessions explore networking strategies and online tools, such as LinkedIn. The sessions emphasize the importance of job seekers taking a proactive role in their career decision making.
Career counselors Ruth Campbell and Carol Dougherty designed the workshop and facilitate it. Both Campbell, a professor at the College, and Dougherty, an adjunct counselor, are licensed professional counselors in Pennsylvania and hold national certifications in career counseling. They have extensive experience working with adults in career transition. “Workers need to have a stronger career strategy than ever before,” Campbell says. “Employers want to see that you understand their needs.”
The cost of the workshop is $114 for residents from the College’s 12 sponsoring school districts, and $144 for residents from non-sponsoring districts. The Myers-Briggs and the Strong Inventory are included in the price. Space is strictly limited, and seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, or to register, please contact the College’s Career and Counseling Center at 610-359-5324.
A sponsoring school district contributes financially to the College’s budget. Sponsoring school districts include: Chester-Upland, Garnet Valley (Bethel residents only), Haverford, Interboro, Radnor, Ridley, Rose Tree Media, Southeast Delco, Springfield, Upper Darby, Wallingford-Swarthmore (Swarthmore and Rutledge residents only), and William Penn.
