STARS Scholarship for STEM Majors
Are you currently attending or planning to attend Delaware County Community College and interested in a career in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)? The College's Supporting Talent in Academic Recruitment for STEM (STARS) program could provide you with support if you are majoring in Mathematics/Natural Science or Engineering. Applicants must demonstrate dedication to achieving a degree in a STEM major and plan to transfer into a related B.S. program after graduation or seek employment in a STEM-related field. Characteristics of successful applicants will include evidence of motivation and persistence; professionalism, work ethic, ability to manage time and resources; communication skills and leadership potential; and active involvement in extracurricular activities and/or community service.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Demonstrate an interest and dedication to achieving a degree in Mathematics/Natural Science or Engineering and plan to transfer into a related B.S. program after graduation and/or seek employment in a STEM field (excluding medicine)
- Submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application to determine financial need
- Be a US citizen, US national, alien refugee, or alien lawfully admitted to the US for permanent residence
- Take the College's Placement Test and/or submit acceptable SAT and ACT scores, or prior college credits. Other college readiness assessments will also be considered
- Commit to being half-time (6 credit hours per semester) in either Engineering or Mathematics/Natural Science
- Complete an application form which will require you to describe your career goals and state why a STEM pathway is important
- If a new student or currently enrolled Delaware County Community College student having fewer than 12 college credits: provide an official high school transcript or GED certification demonstrating a 2.75 GPA
- Currently enrolled students having earned 12 or more college credits: Overall GPA of 2.75
- Agree to participate in all STARS activities including enrollment in SCI 150 – STEM Topics
