Linear/Nonlinear Art Exhibition Opens March 3
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • February 18, 2016)—The Arts at Delaware County Community College continues its spring season with the opening of Linear/Nonlinear. The exhibition runs from March 2 until April 8 and a reception and artist talk will take place on Thursday, March 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
Curated by Jay McClellan, Linear/Nonlinear features the work of four artists—Mia Rosenthal, Greg Giegucz, Kelly Brown and Jenny Cox—whose progressive use of line and personal mark making is integral to their work. Whether woven, pressed, hatched or jotted, the nonlinear repetition of line is at the forefront. Leading their own paths, these artists narrate stories that often mimic structures and recall of human memory. A visiting artist session with Brown and Cox will take place every Thursday (except March 17) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Art Gallery.
Unexplained, mysterious, alluring and disorienting, Brown gathers an intimate understanding of her materials and has developed an inventive, intuitive sculptural practice through tactile manipulation. Her work has been shown at Pageant: Soloveev Gallery, Material Culture, and in both Dear, Stephanie and Beautiful Water at the Center for Creative Works in Wynnewood, PA.
Cox’s exuberant compositions are achieved through intense focus and methodological execution. The text she employs in her works have their origins in both stream of consciousness as well as specific selections that lend themselves to a larger narrative. Her work has been shown at the St. Louis Outsider Art Fair, Fleisher/Ollman Gallery, and most recently in The Woodmere Annual: 74th Juried Exhibition.
Giegucz was born in New York and lives and works in New Orleans. Giegucz received his MFA from the Memphis College of Art in 2006 and was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant as well as a Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation award.
Rosenthal was born in Cranston, Rhode Island and lives and works in Philadelphia. She recently had a solo exhibition of her work at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She received her BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design in 1999 and her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2008.
The exhibition is on view in the College’s Art Gallery, located in Room 2305 in the Academic Building on the Marple Campus (901 S.
