Workshop to Meet Needs In Ever-Changing Job Market
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Delaware & Chester County, PA) Delaware County Community College will host a career workshop Navigating Your Career in Challenging Times, a 10-week workshop beginning Monday, September 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marple Campus – 901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA. The cost of the workshop is $114 for residents of sponsoring school districts and $163 for those in non-sponsoring districts.
Navigating Your Career in Challenging Times will teach participants how to manage their career. Group members will take the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory to assess career satisfiers and occupational interests. The workshop, targeted to unemployed individuals or those still working who lack a sense of direction and focus, provides structure and support for men and women attempting to cope with the uncertainty of a changing job market.
Workshop designers and facilitators are Ruth Campbell and Will Miller. Campbell, a professor at the College, is a licensed professional and nationally certified career counselor. Miller is a college and career counselor who previously worked extensively in the information technology field. According to Campbell, “The College knew that in the present climate, we needed to provide special assistance. Workers need to have a stronger career strategy than ever before.” Campbell added, “Going from job to job without a focus puts workers in a one-down position with very little security.”
Counselors will use card sorts to identify motivated skills and personal priorities. In addition, participants will identify their strongest marketable skills and develop an individualized plan to move ahead proactively.
One-to-one consultation appointments with a group leader will be scheduled during the workshop. Sessions on how to network, construct the strongest possible resume and search for jobs effectively will be presented during the latter part of the workshop.
Space is limited and seats will be filled on a first come, first served basis. To register, contact Lisa Fay at the Career and Counseling Center at 610-359-5324.
