Performing Arts Concert Series Presents Latin Jazz Ensemble - Pastiche
(Media, PA) The Delaware County Community College Performing Arts Concert Series wraps up its 2010-11 concert season with Latin Jazz Ensemble, Pastiche on April 10, 2011 at 3 PM in the Academic building's large auditorium (Marple Campus). Take advantage of this super offer - tickets are free!
Pastiche is a highly energetic Latin Jazz ensemble sure to get your feet tapping and bodies moving. Some of the Delaware Valley’s premiere musicians including the College’s own Karen Rege (piano), Giovana Guevara Robinson (vocals & percussion), Rob Hagopian (bass), Vernon James (alto saxophone & flute), Josh Robinson (percussion), Tim Thompson (trumpet & vocals), and Francois Zayas (drums) will be performing with the ensemble.

Artist Biographies:
Pastiche, based in Wilmington/Philadelphia is a group of professionally trained musicians from a variety of cultures and backgrounds who work together to explore various styles within the Latin music genre.
Pastiche performs a variety of Latin-based and Afro-Caribbean rhythms, including salsa, merengue, cha-cha, bolero, cumbia, traditional Cuban son, mambo, and Latin jazz. Drawing on the high quality of musicianship, Pastiche provides all the energy and excitement of a larger ensemble, yet has the versatility of a smaller band. The strength of the band lies in the solo improvisational work of its instrumentalists, and in the original composition and arrangements by band members.
Karen Rege - Piano
Dr.
Karen Rege earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School of Music,
University of Hartford and a Master of Arts degree from the University of
Michigan, as well as a Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware.
Her teachers include Jackie McLean, Jaki Byard, and Elio Villafranca. Besides
Latin music, Karen also plays both classical harpsichord and jazz piano, and is
a musicologist specializing in American music, particularly the history of
early jazz. Local performances include appearances with Insaciable, Nueva
Direccion, Orquesta Romance, Atiba's Dream, and the Christina Cultural Arts
Center Faculty Jazz Ensemble. She currently teaches piano privately and a world
music class for Delaware County Community College. In August 2002, she studied
in Havana, Cuba with Yaroldy Abreu (percussion) and Emilio Vega (piano) through
a program sponsored by the Asociación de Musicos Latinos Americanos. She
currently studies with Gerald Chavis and Edsel Gomez.
