Conducted by Riccardo Chailly and directed by Michael Beyer, the show features superstar pianist Lang Lang and the Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig, which is renowned for being one of the world’s oldest symphony orchestras. Lang, who began playing the piano at age three, is internationally recognized as a musical genius. The repertoire includes Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Overture in C Major Op. 101 ("Trumpet-Overture"), Symphony No. 3 in A minor Op. 56 "Scottish" ("London Version") and Wedding March from A Midsummer Night’s Dream with an encore of Frédéric Chopin’s Etude Op. 10 No. 3 in E Major Tristesse.
Now in its second year, the College’s SpectiCast series brings the classical realm of music, dance and opera closer to home for residents of Delaware and Chester Counties. Each concert is produced in real time using a state-of-the-art audiovisual system and is choreographed to capture the fullness of the orchestral performance and the intimacy of the on-stage experience.
