New Music Concert Series Presents Dolce Suono Ensemble

(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)—Delaware County Community College’s New Music Concert Series presents Dolce Suono Ensemble on Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public and will be held in the College’s Large Auditorium in the Academic Building on the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).
Dolce Suono Ensemble has been dazzling audiences and invigorating the music world since its founding by flutist and Artistic Director Mimi Stillman in 2005. Lauded by The New York Times as an “adventurous ensemble,” the group has garnered media acclaim and radio broadcasts on four continents. Dolce Suono performs in its home series in Philadelphia and has performed at venues including Symphony Space in New York, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, Princeton University, Bard College, and for the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society.
On April 14, the ensemble will present the world premiere of Fang Man’s Earth, a song cycle with renowned singers and a dance component. In her work, Fang Man set to music original Chinese poems by some of China’s most revered poets from the Tang Dynasty. The poems deal with themes of youth, nature and beauty. Celebrated choreographer Tim Early created a dance specifically for the music and performance space, which he will perform with Brittney Ryan. Grammy Award-winning soprano Lucy Shelton and bass baritone Evan Hughes of the Metropolitan Opera will perform with the ensemble.
The performance is part of the College’s month-long Articulture festival, which explores spirituality in art. Other Articulture events include:
- “Blasphemy and Devotion: Redefining the Spiritual in Art”: An exhibition curated by Jeanne Brody and Emily Hage that explores how a broad range of artists continue to wrestle with issues related to religion and spirituality in their works. This exhibition seeks to explore the various ways in which they do so. Features: Rita Bernstein, Martin Brief, Moe Brooker, Lesley Dill, Ellen Frank, Taehee Kim, Nicholas Kripal, Dennis McNally and Paul Swenbeck. The exhibition is on view in the College’s Art Gallery (Academic Building, Room 2305) through April 26. Free and open to the public.
- Godspell: Student theatre performance directed by Beth Criscuolo and Christopher Sapienza. Runs April 10 to 13 and 17 to 20 with showtimes at 7 p.m. Held in the College’s Large Auditorium. Admission is $6.
