(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)— Delaware County Community College alumna and Media resident Laura Kasper ’84 is this year’s Alumni Professional Achievement Award winner. Kasper, President and CEO of Monarch Staffing, will serve as the keynote speaker at the College’s Commencement Ceremony on May 17, 2012.
The Alumni Professional Achievement Award annually recognizes graduates who are accomplished in their profession, having demonstrated a significant level of distinction within their chosen field. Kasper, who majored in Business Administration, has done just that through her company and commitment to the community.
After graduating from Delaware County Community College, Kasper earned a bachelor’s degree from West Chester University. In 1990, she began her career in staffing, working as an outside sales account representative in Delaware County. By 2000, she had quickly advanced and was running a $30 million decentralized sales operation.
In 2001, she decided to open her own staffing agency, and with the help of the Women’s Business Development Center in Philadelphia, she wrote a business plan for Monarch Staffing. Eleven years later, Monarch is going strong with two locations—one in Delaware County and one in Chester County.
“My goal with Monarch is to develop the team in place, help them reach their goals and provide flexibility for busy working professionals while providing the local business community with top-notch quality talent when and where needed,” says Kasper. Monarch has placed thousands of working professionals in positions throughout Philadelphia, Delaware and Chester Counties and was named Small Business of the Year for 2012 by the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to heading Monarch, Kasper serves as Vice President of Marketing for the Delaware County Human Resources Association. She also remains a passionate activist for women’s rights and has developed many programs and teaching tools to help support those seeking professional development. She exhibits a tireless commitment to the community, serving on countless boards and volunteering with many organizations, including Mainline Moms, the American Heart Association, Friends of the Delaware County Women’s Commission and the Delco Womenomics Forum. She also sits on the board of the College’s New Choices program and volunteers with CareerLink.
Kasper will address Delaware County Community College’s 2012 graduates at the Commencement Ceremony at 7 p.m. on May 17 at Villanova University (800 E. Lancaster Avenue, Villanova, PA). To learn more about Monarch, visit www.monarchstaffing.com.
