(Media, PA) —Frances M. Cubberley, of Norristown, PA, vice president for enrollment management at Delaware County Community College, was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) at the association’s 67th National Conference in New Orleans, Sept. 22-24, 2011. Cubberley will serve a three-year term.
Cubberley, in her position statement for office, urged the association to use its resources and influence on a number of fronts, including “providing professional development opportunities for professionals who serve students representing a changing and shifting demographic; ratcheting up its influence on public policy, particularly that which impacts educational access and success and providing a voice for the many urban and rural populations that currently fall by the wayside.”
“Working with other like-minded organizations to build coalitions that wield strong influence must be a part of NACAC’s agenda,” she said. “The scope of our strategic plan must be expanded in its reach to better serve professionals in the trenches, but absent from our activities. The challenges facing education today are too complex for any one entity to address effectively. However, NACAC can bring its ethical compass to the fore as we engage in broader conversations and actions aimed at supporting postsecondary access with success for all who have the dream of a better life.”
A member of NACAC since 1980, Cubberley has held a number of positions in the association and its affiliate, the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling, where she served as president and on a variety of committees. She also is a member of The College Board, Community Colleges for International Development, Educational Testing Service Scholarship & Recognition Program Review Committee, USA Community College Consortium and Middle States Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. She also served on the American Council on Educational National Identification Program and was certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors.
Cubberley is only the second active community college representative in the history of NACAC to serve on the Board of Directors. She has a B.S. in secondary education: English from Slippery Rock State College (PA) and an M.S. in Counseling and Human Relations from Villanova University (PA).
Cubberley has been with Delaware County Community College for sixteen years. She initially assumed the role of associate dean for enrollment management, then was appointed dean and associate vice president for enrollment management before becoming vice president in 2005. Cubberley also worked in undergraduate admissions at West Chester University and Harcum Jr. College after a brief stint teaching English at Ridgway Area Middle School in Ridgway, PA.
