New Commercial Driver's License Program Available
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • March 7, 2016)—Delaware County Community College recently launched a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program that gives students the opportunity to embark on a new career in as little as four weeks. The program is offered in partnership with CC Training, LLC and is held on the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).
Trainees begin in the classroom, where they learn commercial vehicle operation, air brakes, cargo handling, emergency maneuvering and more. Then on the driving range, through demonstration and practice, each trainee will master pre-trip inspection, coupling and uncoupling, and all necessary backing maneuvers. Finally, they’ll take their newly acquired skills on the road, with an experienced instructor by their side. Upon completion of the four-week program each trainee will be administered the CDL Class A Driving Exam.
Demand for commercial drivers is high, as the United States economy depends on trucks to deliver $700.4 billion worth of goods throughout the country annually and, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, commercial driving is expected to grow 11 percent nationally through 2022. After completing the College’s program, students graduate with the CDL Class A and sufficient skills to find a job as an entry-level tractor trailer driver with a quality carrier.
