JPMorgan Chase Awards College $100,000 grant for Advanced Manufacturing Training and Education
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • October 1, 2015)—Delaware County Community College is pleased to announce a $100,000 grant from JPMorgan Chase that will focus on meeting the needs of local manufacturers and individuals seeking training in the field.
“JPMorgan Chase is committed to investing in the communities we serve,” said Mark Schrieber, executive director and head of the Greater Philadelphia middle market commercial bank for Chase. “Working with Delaware County Community College to provide training for people to develop the skills they need to fill important in-demand jobs will help this community thrive.”
The grant will support approximately 20 students three days a week in training programs and two days a week at local manufacturers for a paid work experience. The College’s leadership role in a manufacturing alliance in Delaware and Chester Counties will provide access to companies that need to augment their workforce and are willing to participate. Upon completion of a 20-week training program, the trainees would be eligible for permanent employment.
JPMorgan Chase will also serve as the lead sponsor of a Workforce and Education Summit that is a collaborative project with Chester County, the Chester County Economic Development Council, Chester County Workforce Investment Board and private businesses. An initiative of VISTA 2025, the Workforce and Education Summit is a priority strategy to ensure Chester County’s long-term economic health. Delaware County Community College is a Visionary Partner in VISTA 2025.
The Summit will be held on October 14 at Penn State University’s Great Valley Campus and will focus on seven industry sectors, including manufacturing. Area educational institutions will participate alongside business leaders, reaching a consensus on the top workforce-related action items from each sector.
College President Dr. Jerry Parker, director emeritus of the Chester County Economic Development Council, said, “Delaware County Community College has invested significant resources in advanced manufacturing and other vital sectors and anticipates playing an important role in training residents of Chester County and beyond to enable them to thrive in a 21st Century work environment.”
