(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)—Don’t miss the next exhibition on view in Delaware County Community College’s Art Gallery (901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA). Fragmented Realities, a visual arts exhibition, opens Thursday, April 3, 2014, with an artist discussion by Vishal Jugdeo (whose work is on view simultaneously at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia), Michael Williams and Eric Laska at 11 a.m. in the Large Auditorium followed by a reception in the Art Gallery at 12 p.m.
Curated by Randy Gilmore, Fragmented Realities features the work of seven artists: Oliver Herring, Vishal Jugdeo, Eric Laska, Amanda Ross-Ho, Miljohn Ruperto, Daniel Wiener and Michael Williams. The exhibition includes sculptures, video installations and more.
"The language we use for practical communication demands both order and efficiency. Words connect with other words to form sentences, which then reveal meaning. Our poetic speech, on the other hand, demands something different. Poetic speech fragments traditional codes of meaning, thus reorganizing the procession of thoughts in our minds," writes Gilmore in his curator’s essay. "Visual language undergoes the same transformation in a work of art. Fragmented Realities seeks to examine this transformation."
On view until April 25, Fragmented Realities is free and open to the public. The Art Gallery is located in Room 2305 in the Academic Building and open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact Caitlin Flaherty, Assistant to the Dean for Arts Programming, at 610-359-5266.
