College Named to Victory Media's 2017 Military Friendly® Schools List
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • November 10, 2016)—Delaware County Community College earned a 2017 Military Friendly® School designation by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs®, STEM JobsSM, and Military Spouse. Now in its eighth year, the Military Friendly® Schools designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and training opportunities.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from Victory Media’s proprietary survey. More than 1,600 schools participated in the 2017 survey; 1,160 were awarded with the designation.
Ratings methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Victory Media with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
“The 2017 Military Friendly® School designation is a recognition of the work we do in creating a welcoming environment that enables military veterans and their family members to achieve their education and training goals utilizing the Post-9/11 GI Bill and other federal benefits for which they are eligible,” said Delaware County Community College President Dr. Jerry Parker.
Delaware County Community College offers credit for military training and knowledge that applies to a course; career counseling; and day, evening, weekend and online classes. The College has staff skilled in helping veterans and their family members navigate the intricacies of U.S. government benefits and financial aid.
In honor of Veterans Day, the College proudly will open its Veterans Center tomorrow (Nov. 11) in recently renovated space on the Marple Campus near Enrollment Central. At the Center, veterans will be able to use a computer, study and meet other veterans on campus.
Delaware County Community College will be showcased, along with other 2017 Military Friendly® Schools, in the annual Guide to Military Friendly® Schools, as well as in the special education issues of G.I. Jobs® and Military Spouse magazine, and on militaryfriendly.com. For more information about the College’s commitment to attracting and supporting military students, visit www.dccc.edu/veterans.
