Agreement With University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Will Benefit Students
(Delaware & Chester Counties, PA • April 19, 2018)—University of the Sciences (USciences) in Philadelphia and Delaware County Community College signed a program-to-program and guaranteed admission agreement today enabling the College’s associate-degree graduates to earn a Bachelor of Science degree at the University.
The agreement allows qualified students with a specified Associate in Arts degree, or a specified Associate in Science degree, to seamlessly transfer to USciences and begin their pursuit of a bachelor’s degree as a junior, rather than as a freshman. Qualified students can transfer up to 90 credits from the College to the University. Once a student transfers, at least 30 credits must be completed “in-residence” at USciences’ campus, and at least half of those credits must be in upper division courses required under the academic major.
By first graduating from Delaware County Community College and then transferring to USciences, students are able to save money because the College’s tuition is less than the tuition at the University.
“The demand for skilled workers in the career fields of Allied Health and the sciences and the excellent instruction provided at the University of the Sciences make this a very beneficial agreement for our students,” said Delaware County Community College President Dr. L. Joy Gates Black.
“We are pleased to provide access for qualified students to a variety of majors at USciences through this partnership with Delaware County Community College. These students will be able to earn Bachelor of Science degrees and continue their pathway to rewarding career opportunities,” said USciences President Paul Katz, M.D.
In general, a qualified graduate of the College can expect to complete most Bachelor of Science degree requirements within four regular semesters, which is the equivalent of two years.
Delaware County Community College serves more than 23,000 credit and non-credit students online and at eight locations in Delaware and Chester Counties. The College, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, offers more than 50 associate degrees and 35 certificate programs. More than 60 percent of the College’s students transfer to four-year universities or colleges, often utilizing one of the dozens of transfer programs available for students at the College.
