First in My Family Week | November 4 - November 8
The office of First-Generation Student Success (FGSS) at Delaware County Community College (DCCC) enthusiastically celebrates National First-Generation College Celebration Day (FGCC), by hosting First in My Family Week from November 4 to November 8. This is our fourth year in joining many other colleges and universities across the nation to celebrate FGCC.
What is FGCC and why do we celebrate?
FGCC Day is celebrated annually on November 8th to commemorate the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. On November 8, 2017, in honor of the 52nd anniversary of the signing of HEA, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) partnered with FirstGen Forward (formerly known as the Center for First-Generation Student Success) to host the first First-Generation College Celebration.
FGCC is an opportunity to honor and celebrate the accomplishments and presence of first-generation college students, faculty and staff on campuses across the country.
How we Celebrate at DCCC!
FGCC Day at DCCC has grown tremendously over the past four years! Our celebration has transformed from a single day to a weeklong celebration! This is our second year offering a full list of activities from kickoff celebrations to panel discussions.
First in My Family Week is intended to celebrate the entire DCCC first-gen community across all campuses! We hope that everyone can attend one or more events at Marple, Downingtown Center, or virtually attend a live streamed event! As our hope is to celebrate the entire DCCC first-gen community our goal is to make this event as accessible as possible.
