Alumni Profile - John C. Kline '92
John is a great example of a student who is using their passion for the arts to become a successful entrepreneur. In addition to teaching students in the arts, he and his wife recently launched their website to try and make the local community and eventually the world a more colorful place.
What year did you graduate from Delaware County Community College and with what degree?
I graduated from Delaware County Community College in 1992 with an associates degree in Fine Art.
Did you pursue further academic goals?
I was accepted into the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in 1993, where I studied painting, sculpture and print making.
Where are you now?
I’m in my 13th year of teaching art at the Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Bryn Mawr. I have shown my artwork in several galleries and museums in the Philadelphia area, including the ArtWorks Gallery in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Recently my wife Christine and I had decided to combine our artistic abilities and started KlineStudios, teaching art and music to children in our area. This led to the development of KlineCreative, which encompasses all of our artistic endeavors. The site includes my oil paintings and photography, a musical my wife and I wrote together and free online piano and art lessons.
What is next for you professionally?
I plan to continue to expand and grow our business in order to reach out to children on a global scale, so they may learn and enjoy the arts. I also intend to continue pursuing different artistic ventures independently and with my wife for many years to come.
What advice would you give to current students and alumni to capitalize on the education they received from the College?
Never underestimate your instructors at Delaware County Community College. My art instructor, Gail Fox, taught me everything I needed to know to get into my dream school, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. To this day, what Gail taught me is worth more then any other school or experience has given me. My best advice is to use what you’ve learned at the College, and the talents you’ve been given to propel yourself forward. The world today is full of uncertainty, but you don’t need to be.
