Personal Introduction

My teaching philosophy is based on the constructivist theory of learning. This is a learning theory that points to the students as the primary agent in the construction of their learning. There are multiple studies that support the idea that it’s what students do, their learning behaviors, that produce learning. I use what is typically referred to as a flipped classroom so that classroom meetings are devoted to students determining what is discussed in class. My class involves working in pairs or small groups. Human Anatomy & Physiology, Level 1 (BIO 150), Human Anatomy & Physiology, Level 2 (BIO 151)

Academic Biography

My graduate research focused on the effects of aging and cardiovascular training status on monocarboxylate transporters in skeletal muscle. I began my career teaching exercise physiology and human anatomy and physiology. I’ve taught human anatomy and physiology at private colleges, public universities, and community colleges since the beginning of my career in 2005.

Scholarly Interests

I regularly attend conferences and meetings of the Human Anatomy & Physiological Society (HAPS). I’m a regular consumer of research on teaching and learning published in peer reviewed journals (e.g. Advances in Physiological Education, The HAPS Educator), presenter at the HAPS annual conference, and serve as a reviewer for the HAPS Educator.
