ESL Summer Classes Start Soon

Media Line Road, Media) and at the new Upper Darby Center (Barclay Square, 1570 Garrett Rd , Upper Darby). English as a Second Language (ESL) provides beginning, intermediate and advanced instruction in speaking English. Students are grouped according to their current ability, which is determined through screening at the first class meeting. No testing in advance is required. This 40-hour course is offered at the Marple Campus on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8:05-10:05 p.m., May 15 through July 19. A later section is scheduled for the Upper Darby Center, meeting Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:30-3:30 p.m., July 9 through August 9. The cost of this course is $210, which includes the textbook and a CD, plus a $5 records processing fee. (Also offered at the College’s Pennocks Bridge and Downingtown campuses in Chester County.) Pronunciation for ESL Students is designed specifically to help advanced students improve their pronunciation of Standard English. It incorporates group and pairs exercises, pronunciation games and an introduction to linguistic terms. This 20-hour course meets on Wednesday evenings, May 30 through August 8, from 8:05-10:05 p.m. at the Marple Campus. The cost is $195, which includes the textbook, plus a $5 records processing fee. (Also offered at the Downingtown Campus in Chester County.) Writing for Foreign Students Learning English helps those who speak English as a second language to think and write in English. Grammar is taught along with basic writing skills. A speaking knowledge of English is required. This 20-hour course meets on Thursday evenings at the Marple Campus, May 24 through July 26, from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $195, plus a $5 records processing fee. Elementary Grammar for Foreign Students provides learning and practice in grammar skills in this high-beginning multi-skills course incorporating listening, speaking, reading and writing activities focused on everyday life. Upon successful completion of this 45-hour course you may be eligible for three academic credits. Classes take place at the Marple Campus on Monday and Wednesday evenings, May 21 through August 8, from 8:05-10:05 p.m. There will be no class on May 28 or July 4. The cost is $350, which includes the textbook, plus a $5 records processing fee. Credit for Prior Learning Information Sessions Offered October 8 & 10

Learn more at one of Delaware County Community College’s Credit for Prior Learning information sessions, offered Tuesday, October 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the Marple Campus (STEM Center, Room 1407, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA) and Thursday, October 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Exton Center (Building 912, Room 225, 906 Springdale Drive, Exton, PA). These sessions will help students discover ways to earn academic credit for learning acquired outside of the classroom. Students come to college from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, some of which may involve college-level learning. Prior learning assessment can help students attain credit for learning they have already mastered outside of the traditional college classroom. Credit received may be applied to many programs of study at Delaware County Community College, allowing students to complete their college education sooner and at a much lower cost. Assessment counselors will help students identify practical and relevant life experiences, such as participation in professional workshops, volunteer activities, and military or technical training classes, equivalent or closely related to the learning expectations of the College’s courses. Information will also be available about the College-Level Examination Program, credit by examination, transfer of credits from other colleges and portfolio development. DCCC Presents “Romeo and Juliet” Outdoors June 5 through 8 

(Delaware and Chester Counties, Pa. - May 30, 2024)—On a hot summer night in Verona, teenagers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet meet and fall instantly in love—and the two strive to escape an age-old vendetta between their powerful families. It is a timeless story that never disappoints. Delaware County Community College presents its spring student theatre production, William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” June 5 through 8 at 8 p.m. at the Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063. Take a seat on the College’s sprawling lawn on a beautiful summer evening for a special outdoor theatre experience. The cast features students from both Delaware and Chester Counties: Melissa Morris, Richie Richardson, Javier Villagomez, Kevin Lara, DJ Truxler, Umani Padmore, Ikesseh Zarwee, Sean Summerfield, Gillian Keener, Peggy Oleynick, Anthony Abo-Harb, Brenna Lill, Sam Briggs, Adrian Bruce, Oniha Warren, David Scanlan, Josh Lindy and Patrick Gregson.  “Romeo and Juliet” is directed by Stephen Patrick Smith, associate professor of Drama. Teacher Education Program

The Teacher Education Program, or TEP, is designed to help interested students jumpstart their education toward a professional career in the PreK-12 education field.  Recognizing the critical teacher shortage in Delaware County, DCCC and Delaware County Council partnered to create this important initiative, whereby high school juniors can now attend the College at no cost and earn up to 38 credits toward an associate degree in education. A new cohort will begin Fall 2025 (August 25, 2025). Students who are eligible to participate in this dual enrollment pathway will have the opportunity to meet with the Transfer Office to discuss transfer options, as well as have access to a success coach and tutoring for their English and Mathematics courses. Laptops are also available, as well as enrichment activities throughout the program.  Delaware County High Schools Classed held at the DCCC Marple Campus location. Important Dates: Application Deadline: March 6, 2025 Course Placement/Testing Deadline: April 24, 2025 Registration begins in May for eligible students. CPR Courses Offered This Summer at Marple Campus

(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • May 7, 2015)—Delaware County Community College is offering a variety of CPR courses this summer. Courses will be held at the College’s Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media) and will teach participants the life-saving skills needed to know how to respond to a cardiac or breathing emergency. (Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • January 8, 2016)—The last day to register for Delaware County Community College’s next New Choices Career Development program session is Monday, January 18. The next session begins Tuesday, January 19, and classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).   For more than 32 years, the program has provided support and direction to thousands of area residents. New Choices is a FREE (for those who are eligible) career exploration and job re-entry program that provides individual and group support, career planning workshops, employer contacts, networking opportunities, resume writing, interviewing techniques and basic computer skills. Student Theatre Production of Othello Begins 11/8

(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • October 24, 2018)—Delaware County Community College’s theatre arts department presents William Shakespeare’s Othello November 8–9 and 15–17, 2018. All performances begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Academic Building’s Large Auditorium on the Marple Campus (901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door and online at dccc.edu/the-arts. The Shakespearean tragedy of Othello, originally set in 16th century Venice, is reimagined for the modern stage. Othello, an army general, has secretly married Desdemona, a daughter of the prominent senator Brabantio. Iago, a lower-ranking officer, is passed over for a promotion by Othello, and the jealous Iago begins a malicious campaign against Othello. The story that follows is one of deception, betrayal and repentance.  Delaware County Community College Professor of Psychology Marc Henley and Associate Professor of Drama Stephen Smith will join the student cast and crew for this exciting production of a timeless classic. The theatre arts department produces two productions each year and is committed to providing a comprehensive theatre education to students. In turn, the community can enjoy vibrant, thought-provoking productions right in their backyard. Recent productions have included Pippin, Clybourne Park, Urinetown and Middletown.
