Participants will obtain a basic understanding of these documents and their importance.

American Civics Unlocked: The Power, the Rights, and the People

This course is delivered by The Delaware County Bar Association & Judicial Outreach Committee. Students will receive weekly workshops on specific topics deemed appropriate for the civics education as it pertains to the US Constitution.
Each week there is a different topic covered. Each workshop is presented by Delaware County Bars Association Judges.
- Introduction – framework of government: the Constitution and Bill of Rights, branches, separation of powers, powers given to each, and what judges do
- Courts – state vs. federal, different levels and roles, judicial independence, precedent, stare decisis, and rule of law
- Civil Law (employment law as example)
- Criminal Law – 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments key cases and principles
- Immigration – key concepts, paths to citizenship
- First Amendment
- 14th Amendment – due process and equal protection
- Voting Rights & Wrap Up – Electoral College, gerrymandering
